Speaker: Kevin Morooney and Renee Shuey Title: Identity and Trust Federations Abstract: There is an ever increasing need for nations, corporations and people to be able to use and depend upon secure on-line transactions. The US federal government, for example, has published a draft National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace focused on improving our ability to identify and authenticate the organizations, individuals, and underlying infrastructure (e.g., routers, servers, desktops, mobile devices, software, data, etc.) involved in an on-line transaction - http://www.dhs.gov/xlibrary/assets/ns_tic.pdf. In Europe, there are more than 25 identity federations with at least two providing broad national support for the communities of research and higher education. In the US, the leading trust federation comes from higher education and it is called InCommon http://www.incommonfederation.org/. The speakers will describe InCommon, its current activities and the future of on-line trust mediation in the US.
