Title: Information Retrieval in Libraries: Silos and (Tentative) Solutions

Abstract

Information retrieval of academic information in the current research
library environment is a vexed issue. In addition to technical hurdles
making it difficult to provide a single-search solution, IR is further
complicated by a variety of legal and social factors. The problem of
information silos has had a negative impact on the current scholarly
communication landscape. This presentation will explore possible
technical solutions to the silo problem and discuss implications for
the future of scholarly publishing."
