Externally Funded Projects:

  • Mapping the DNA of the Supply Chain. A project funded by IBM to examine sectoral differences in supply chains and identify ways to enhance effectiveness across these differences. Together with Irene Petrick and Carleen Maitland of Penn State, the project team is made up of researchers from Michigan State University, University College Dublin and the National University of Singapore. The project runs from November 2007 - November 2008.
  • Coordination of Humanitarian Organizations in Relief using Technology (COHORT). A project funded by the National Science Foundation to understand inter-organizational decision making in the domain of the ICTs for relief. The project team is lead by Carleen Maitland and includes Andrea Tapia and John Yen from IST as well as Benita Beamon from the University of Washington. The project runs from January 2007-Decomber 2009.
  • Network effectiveness in the Pennsylvania Plastics Sector. A project funded by the Pennsylvania Plastics Initiative to profile the plastics industry and provide recommendations for training targeted at enhancing coordination among Pennsylvania's plastics manufacturers. The project team is led by Irene Petrick (PI) and consists of Carleen Maitland and Nicolai Pogrebnyakov. The project runs from May 2007 - February 2008.
  • Network effectiveness in U.S. manufacturing. A project funded by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the U.S. Department of Commerce that examines how network effectiveness can be measured across sectors and how small manufacturers can perform network analyses to assess strategic fit. The project team is led by Irene Petrick (PI) and consists of Carleen Maitland, Doug Thomas and Gerald Sussman, all from Penn State's School of IST and Smeal College of Business. The project runs from September 2005-December 2007.
  • End user control and security features in UMTS services. A project funded by the NET Institute that examines end-user security features available in a UMTS test-bed at Delft University of Technology and applies its findings to an analysis of the viability of U.S. and European security policy from the end-user's perspective. The project team consists of researchers at Penn State and Delft and runs from May-September 2003
  • e-HUBs: e-Engineering enabled by Holonomic and Universal Broker services. A project funded by the European Commission under the ‘Information Society Technology’ Programme (1998-2002) to design an online engineering services intermediary. The project team consists of 7 principal European contractors and 2 assistant Latin American contractors, with a total budget of over € 2 million 50% funded by the EC. Project number IST-2001-34031.

Internally Funded Projects:

  • The international context of information technology. A project funded by Penn State's Equal Opportunity Planning Committee (EOPC) to develop a course that will provide students in the School of Information Sciences and Technology with a forum for integrating knowledge gained in their foreign cultures courses to their field of expertise in IT. The project consists of a development period (summer/fall 2003), a pilot offering of the course (spring 2004), a revision of the course material (summer 2004) and a launch of the senate-approved course in two Penn State locations in spring 2005.
